Isaac and Emma as Landsknecht Children
These pictures are from Atlantian fall crown 2007. I knew it was going to be extremely cold, and we were going to be camping, so I decided to make the kids new German garb that was both warm, and trashable (after all, children are period--dirty children are very period!).
I made their outfits out of 94% wool 6% nylon blend that I got at Joanns for $3 a yard. I pre-washed and dried all of the fabric on the highest heat settings, which completely felted all the wool and eliminated any need to finish the cut edges. These outfits were made in one day, so as you can guess, there is no hand finishing.
(Emma's apron is linen purchased with machine embroidery and blue sparkley spangles--I did smock the top in a honeycomb pattern, and it's very wrong, and very her!)
They did stay very warm, and looked very cute and pleased with themselves too. Emma and Isaac are also both wearing shoes hand-made by their dad...
