Emma's Decorative Wall Hanging

A Decorative Wall Hanging

by: Emily Griffith (SCA: Emma Constance Matthews) age 4

I made a tapestry wall hanging with my mom's help. I have never made one before. I have seen real ones from medieval times in the National Cathedral, they are made from threads that are woven, and mine is fabric. Tapestries tell stories. In the National Cathedral, the story is David and Goliath; mine is the story of a princess having her birthday and she is playing with her dog, which is standing in a trick, because she can't go home yet because her surprise party isn't ready. The pearls on the castle are the fairies getting ready.

I colored my picture with special crayons that are for fabric.

My mom then ironed it onto fabric for me because I am not allowed to use the iron. I then used permanent marker to draw details on my picture.

Then I picked out the fabric and trim I wanted (purple and blue are my favority) and sat on my mom's lap while she sewed it. Afterwards, I used glue to put pearls on as decoration.

I am really happy with my project and think it is beautiful.
